North Dakota State University
Professor of Soil Science & Extension Soil Specialist
Dedicated to helping farmers get the most out of their crops, Dr. David Franzen has conducted research to revise fertilizer recommendations for 18 major crops in North Dakota. He has also played a key role in developing strategies to guide site-specific nutrient application. Among his many accomplishments, Franzen has a B.S. degree in forestry/soils, an M.S. degree in soil fertility, and a Ph.D. in soil chemistry from the University of Illinois. Franzen certainly brings a scientific approach to nutrient management as an eKonomics contributor, but he also understands the business side of farming, making him uniquely positioned to offer insights that help bolster the bottom line. Before joining North Dakota State University, he worked as an agronomist and manager of a chain of fertilizer and agricultural chemical retail locations in Illinois.
