Alan Blaylock, Ph.D.

Salt-affected soils – those with excessive total salts and/or high exchangeable sodium – present some of the most difficult soil problems to manage. These soil conditions can reduce crop germination and yields and may create unfavorable soil physical conditions. Proper remediation depends on understanding the nature and source of the salt problems. In this webinar, Dr. Alan Blaylock will discuss the characteristics and challenges of the major salt problems, their causes, and basic remediation techniques. Leaching requirements, calcium amendments, crop tolerance, and other options will also be discussed.
