nutrien fertilizer facility in white springs, florida

eKonomics News Team

The focus on nutrient management and crop nutrition is at an all-time high as farmers work to increase yields and profitability while protecting air and water quality. Fertilizer production has supported crop nutrition since the mid-1800s, but the industry has evolved and changed in a variety of ways. From the consolidation of producers into a smaller number of multinational companies to rapid changes in global market conditions, there are many events that have changed the market’s future and expanded fertilizer production.

In this article from the May-June 2024 issue of Crops & Soil Magazine, Robert Mikkelsen, Director of Agronomic Services at Yara International, and Alan Blaylock, Senior Agronomist at Nutrien, review the development of the North American fertilizer industry and the factors that shaped it. They take a closer look at the development of nitrogen, potash, and phosphate fertilizer production in North America today. This is part two of a three-part series focused on the past, present, and future of the fertilizer industry.
