Why is banded fertilizer key to the future of farming? As growers are planting more and more plants, not only are the plants closer together, but each plant has a smaller root system, so growers must be more efficient in the way crops are fertilized. One way to do that is by placing the nutrients right where the crop can get to it.

Dr. Fred Below, University of Illinois Professor of Plant Physiology, and Eric Winans, University of Illinois Graduate Research Assistant explain what they have discovered from their research on banded fertilizer applications and why this method of application may offer the best environmental, agronomic and economic approach for the future of growing.
